Cognitive behavioral theory is just what is explained by its name, it is a newly researched theory that helps in treating cognitive areas of brain functions of a human being to ensure his well being. The theory is result of long scientific experiments and psychologists are successfully using it since 80s’ for curing individuals suffering from emotional and psychological issues.

According to Wikipedia cognitive behavioral theory is “Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a psycho-social intervention that aims to improve mental health. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems”
Our lifestyle, work ethics and performance depends on our thought process. According to CBT the personality of an individual is defined by his thinking and thought process. If the flow of thoughts and feeling gets disturbed a person suffers from certain emotional and psychological issues. Cognitive behavioral theory works on changing the flow of thoughts and assists the person in living a healthy and fully functional life.
The basis of Cognitive Behavioral theory
Psychologist believe that our cognitions or the thought process is the main cause of psychological issues we suffer and so by altering these cognitions and correcting the flow the behavior can also be alerted.
The theory suggests that when an individual experiences some kind of emotional and psychological turmoil or develops some kind of fear then the problem can only be alerted by hampering and distorting the thoughts. For example a person can develop an underlying fear of having someone under their bed who might harm them. Psychologist with the help of CBT will help that person by training him to get rid of that unknown man hidden under the bed. This function will also make the patient aware of his faulty thoughts and make him sleep peacefully on his bed.
The process of Cognitive behavioral theory
CBT works on process of improving the faulty thoughts in an individual. The theory works in a flow or recognition and elimination of the faulty thoughts. First the person will be made aware of his wrong though process then he will be helped to eliminate them from his life.
The sole purpose of following this theory is to make the individual understand basic three elements
These three elements are related to each other and are influenced by the outside forces and life events. If something good happens with the person he himself will feel happy and positive and vice versa.
Cognitive behavioral theory for anxiety
If someone is suffering from anxiety and panic attacks than CBT is the therapy he needs. The theory helps in improving cognition (thoughts) and behavior (actions) for reducing anxiety level. Our action and behavior are related with each other and works in closed cycle. They are related with one another and effects the results.
The situation a person encounter in day to day life ensures or thought process and triggers the anxiety level, for example driving a car on highway or walking on road might give panic attack to someone. The techniques of Cognitive behavioral therapy give simple solution to stop these attacks and cure anxiety level.
